To Principals/Vice Principals
Last week, we communicated to parents/guardians explaining that students would receive a letter confirming their grade placement for the upcoming school year. At that point in time, it was our understanding that teachers would be available to discuss marks with parents/guardians. When we learned that this would not be the case, staff began developing an alternate plan.
Due to the differing complexities of TDSB schools, and after consultation with principals and vice-principals, it became clear that it would not be feasible for principals and vice-principals at all schools to provide parents/guardians with a verbal update of their child’s marks. It is important that all – not some – TDSB students have access to their marks. To ensure equity across the system, a decision has been made to provide parents/guardians of students in Grades 1-8 with a summary of their child’s marks, including information about attendance and grade placement for the upcoming school year.
In the coming days, we will confirm details regarding preparing the summary of marks and ensuring you have the full support you need to make this happen. Here is the information that has been confirmed to date:
· Principals will be provided with a summary of marks template that they will complete for students in Grades 1-8. This template will be sent to principals by June 18th .
· Students in Junior and Senior Kindergarten will not receive a summary of marks. However, they will receive placement letters that will be mailed during the week of July 13th. Principals will receive the placement letter forms for Kindergarten students by June 18th .
· Your superintendent will be in touch with you to determine the level of support needed at your school to complete mark entry. Additional support from Senior Staff and business/operational staff will be provided, as required.
· Student marks may be entered electronically or by hand. Hand written marks will be scanned electronically. Marks that have already been entered will be captured by SIS.
· During the week of July 13th Kindergarten placement letters and the Grade 1-8 summary of marks will be mailed to the addresses on file for all students. The mailing will be completed by central staff.
· For students with an IEP, the IEP will be filed in the student’s OSR. The IEP can then be reviewed in the fall.
